As the proud Thai capital, Bangkok is a busy and prosperous city, being founded in 1782 as nothing more than a simple trading post set alongside the Chao Phraya River, and now being home to a population in the region of seven million. Suvarnabhumi Airport resides on the south-eastern side of the city, within the Samut Prakan area, where it is well connected to the capital.

Bangkok is not only the capital, but is also Thailand's largest city. It has long been a major tourist destination and is famed for its lively Thai nightlife and distinctive Asian cuisine. This sprawling city is divided into some 50 individual districts and a total of 154 further sub-districts. Notable areas include Dusit, Phahonyothin, Pratunam, Ramkhamhaeng, Ratchadaphisek, Rattanakosin, Siam Square, Silom, Sukhumvit, Thonburi and Yaowarat.
